Jakob Maurer (architect)

Jakob Maurer (born December 28, 1929 in Uster ) is a Swiss architect and spatial planner .

Career

Maurer's parents are the architect Jakob Maurer and Ida Maurer, b. Zubler. He studied architecture at the ETH Zurich from 1948 to 1952 , after which he worked as a salaried and sometimes also as a freelance architect until 1960. In 1960 he moved to the city of Zurich, where he was in charge of the office for the general traffic plan in the city's building department until 1962. From 1963 to 1967 he was the technical director of regional planning for Zurich and the surrounding area, during which time he was also a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council for the Landesring der Independentigen . After receiving his doctorate in 1966 with a thesis on urban planning and urban research , he became assistant professor for local, regional and state planning at the ETH. His professorship was converted into an extraordinary one in 1970 and a full one in 1977, which he held until his retirement in 1997 in the field of spatial planning methodology at the ETH.

Maurer is one of the co-founders of the Federation of Swiss Planners . He also worked in an advisory capacity in Germany, Austria and France.

Maurer has been married to Hilde Lea Esposito since 1953.
