Jakobikirche (Mühlhausen)

The Jakobikirche Mühlhausen / Thuringia is a Gothic church building that today serves as the city library. It shapes the cityscape of the old town of Mühlhausen in Thuringia .

The church is located on Jakobistraße, near Lentzeplatz, still within the medieval city fortifications. On the historical map of 1650 from the edition of Matthäus Merian the church is on the left edge of the picture.

history

The church was first mentioned in 1296 as a branch church of the main church St. Marien . The staggered choir was built in the 2nd half of the 13th century and the new nave in the 1st half of the 14th century; the towers followed in 1418. As early as 1832, it was profaned . After a long period of decay, which also endangered the two towers, extensive securing work was carried out on the structure in 1992 (north tower) and 1994–1995 (south tower). The building has housed the city library since 2001.
