The Jacob's Ladder ( English Jacob's Ladder ) is a 1871 incurred, 699 stages comprehensive rise on the island of St. Helena . It connects Jamestown at the foot of Half Tree Hollow on the Ladder Hill ( German  Head Hill ).

Climbing is part of the annual Saint Helena Festival of Running .

The Jakobsleiter is under the highest monument protection .

history

The staircase was originally laid out in 1829 as a horse-powered cable car and was the first in the world. It was particularly useful for moving large quantities of dung from Jamestown to the surrounding fields.
