Jakow Moissejewitsch Guminer (* 1896 in Minsk , † 1942 in Leningrad ) was a Soviet painter and graphic artist.

Life

Guminer studied from 1915 at the drawing school of the Society for the Promotion of the Arts in Petrograd (later Leningrad, now Saint Petersburg ). In 1922/23 he belonged to the Association of New Art Movements and from 1922 to 1932 he was a member of the Studio for Fine Art of the Proletkult (later the IZO collective). Guminer was involved in the organization of revolution celebrations, designed stage sets for the Proletkult theater in Petrograd and posters. He also designed books. He also worked as a freelance artist and painted portraits, still lifes and figurines. Until 1929 he taught as a professor at WChUTEIN in Leningrad.

Guminer starved to death in 1942 during the Leningrad blockade .
