James H. Adlington (* 1876 in Madeley ; † unknown) was an English football player .

Career

Adlington played for Ironbridge in Shropshire League before the 1895/96 season in the Football League First Division for the Birmingham club Small Heath came. Initially called up in the reserve team, he replaced the regular right winger Jack Hallam for the first time on November 23, 1895 in a 5-2 win over Preston North End . A month later he came back to use and scored both in the 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion , as well as in the three subsequent league games, including a 1-0 win against Burnley FC and a 3-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers , one hit each.

After he went goalless in his sixth season appearance at the end of January 1896, a 7-2 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers, he was no longer considered for the rest of the season despite his impressive goal rate. By the end of the regular season Frank Mobley was called up on the right wing, in the "test matches" called relegation games, which ended for Small Heath with relegation to the Second Division , first Mobley and then Hallam was used again.

Adlington was not signed by Small Heath beyond the end of the season and he continued his career first with the Worcester- based Berwick Rangers in the Birmingham & District League , with whom he won the reigning English champions Aston in December 1896 as part of the Birmingham Senior Cup Villa scored and prepared the Rangers' consolation goal in the 5-1 defeat. From 1897 he played for the Stourport Swifts .
