James Avery (musician)
James Avery (* 1937 in Hutchinson (Kansas) ; † March 8, 2009 ) was an American-German pianist and conductor who was best known as an interpreter of new music .
From 1980 to 2002 he was - as the successor to Edith Picht-Axenfeld - professor for piano at the University of Music Freiburg , then until 2004 a lecturer. With colleagues and students, he founded the Ensemble SurPlus in 1992 .
As a soloist, chamber music partner and ensemble leader he interpreted a. a. Works by Stefan Wolpe , Morton Feldman , Brian Ferneyhough , Mathias Spahlinger and Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf .
