James Douglas, 5th Earl of Buchan

James Douglas, 5th Earl of Buchan (around 1580 - August 26, 1601 ), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

His father was Robert Douglas, second son of Robert Douglas of Lochleven, and his wife Margaret Erskine . His mother was Christina Stewart, 4th Countess of Buchan .

He was only a few months old when his two parents died in 1580 and was therefore initially under the tutelage of his grandmother's family ( Erskine ). In 1586 he was officially confirmed as his father's heir, and on August 26, 1588 as his mother's heir. From his mother he inherited the nobility titles Earl of Buchan and Lord Auchterhouse .

In 1598 he married Margaret, daughter of Walter Ogilvy, 1st Lord Ogilvy of Deskford . There was only one child from this marriage; his daughter Mary , heiress and later 6th Countess of Buchan.

James died on August 16, 1601 and was buried in Auchterhouse .
