James Erskine, 7th Earl of Buchan (* after 1615 - † October 1664 ), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

His father was James Erskine , son of John Erskine, 19th Earl of Mar ; from 1615 iure uxoris and from 1617 also de iure Earl of Buchan. His mother was Mary , daughter of James Douglas and suo iure (in her own right) Countess of Buchan.

After his mother's death, he was officially appointed heir and Earl of Buchan on September 16, 1628 , but he did not use this title and the subordinate title Lord Auchterhouse until after his father's death in 1640.

Few details are known from his life. For his support for the Scottish raids during the royalist uprisings of the Second English Civil War and his military involvement in the Battle of Preston , he was fined £ 1,000 by Cromwell's Act of Grace and Pardon in 1654.

James was married once. The marriage, after April 11, 1655, to Marjory, daughter of William Ramsay, 1st Earl of Dalhousie , had five children; his only son William , heir and later 8th Earl; as well as the daughters Margaret (also Marjory or Mary), Anne, Henrietta and Jean.
