James B. Gibson is an American astronomer and asteroid explorer.
He discovered a total of 26 asteroids between 1971 at the Felix Aguilar Observatory and until 1985 at the Palomar Observatory , four of them together with his colleague Carlos Ulrrico Cesco .
The asteroid (2742) Gibson was named after him.
