(2031) Stearns ( 1973 SC ; 1973 UG ) is an asteroid of the main belt , which the US astronomer James Gibson on 21 September 1973 at the Félix Aguilar Observatory was discovered. Investigations of its light curve indicate an unusually long period of rotation.
designation
The asteroid was named after Carl Leo Stearns (1892–1972), who was professor of astronomy at Wesleyan University and who discovered comet C / 1927 E1 (Stearns) (1927 IV, 1927d).
