James Jenkins Dossen

James Jenkins Dossen (* 1866 in Maryland , Liberia , † August 17, 1924 in Monrovia ) was a Liberian politician and university professor, he was Liberian Vice President from 1904 to 1912. From 1912 to 1924 Dossen was "Chief Justice" (German: Supreme Judge in the legal system of Liberia), he was one of the most powerful and influential men in Liberia.

biography

James Jenkins Dossen was born in Maryland, Liberian in 1866. After graduating, Dossen worked as a lawyer and became a member of the True Whig Party . In 1904 Dossen completed the presidential campaign together with Arthur Barclay , Barclay won and Dossen became Liberian Vice President, succeeding Joseph D. Summerville . In 1912 Dossen assumed the post of Chief Justice at the Supreme Court , which he held until his death in 1924. As Vice President Dossen took on a teaching position at Liberia College and was elected President of this university in 1913.
