James Karr

James Richard Karr (born November 18, 1948 in Odessa , Texas ) is an American biologist and professor of ecology at the University of Illinois .

Karr headed the “ Aquatic Ecology” department for a long time and was heavily involved in fisheries biology . He is considered one of the fathers of the idea of ecological integrity , which is discussed today in the concept of ecosystem health (ecologial health).

Karr received a B. S from Iowa State University and an M. Sc. and a Ph.D. Graduated from the University of Illinois . His master's thesis was An Analysis of Relationships Between Habitat and Avian Diversity on Strip-mined Land and his doctoral thesis from 1970 was entitled A comparative study of the structure of avian communities in selected tropical and temperate habitats . He worked as a consultant for the USEPA , USDA-SCS and other organizations in American countries (including Venezuela). His main area of ​​work was the management and evaluation of aquatic systems.
