James L. Fields

James L. Fields (* before 1933 in Bryn Mawr , Pennsylvania , † 1977 ) was an American sound engineer who lived and worked mainly in Mexico .

Life

Fields was born in Pennsylvania, but moved his family to Pasadena shortly after starting school , where he attended Pasadena Junior College. He left school as a teenager and initially devoted himself to radio technology, which was modern at the time. At the age of 19 he began to work as a radio technician and became a sound technician with the beginning of the sound film. Fields first worked at Pathé in the Culver City Studios, which was sold to RKO Pictures in the early 1930s . Fields was hired as a sound engineer at RKO and then went to the RCA . Here he was senior sound engineer and received five different patents for RCA in the field of sound recording and sound equipment.

In 1945 Fields became senior sound engineer at the new Churubusco studios in Mexico City , which were initially funded by RKO and Mexican private investors and bought by the Mexican state in the early 1960s. Fields was involved in numerous Mexican feature films from the 1940s to 1970s as a senior sound engineer. His filmography includes more than 400 works, including various films by Luis Buñuel ( The Young Girl , The Strangler Angel , Simon in the Desert ). Fields died in 1977, his last film was Rubén Galindos Los desarraigados in 1976 .
