James Murray Spangler
James Murray Spangler (born November 20, 1848 in Plains Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania , † January 22, 1915 in Chicago ) was an American inventor and caretaker.
Life
Spangler patented the first portable vacuum cleaner in 1907. This was upright in terms of design and the technology, including a cloth bag to catch the dirt, did not run like most modern vacuum cleaners on wheels.
Spangler sold his patent to his cousin WH Hoover. He founded the Hoover company in New Berlin (now North Canton) in the US state of Ohio in 1908 . The new product became a big seller in the United States. Spangler was married and had three children. He died in Chicago in 1915.
