James Paget Henry ( July 12, 1914 - November 20, 1996 ) was an American physiologist and stress researcher in the Department of Physiology at the University of South California .

Life

JP Henry began his scientific career in the end of the Second World War. His research focus was the physiological parameters of the cardiovascular system . He established the use of technical instruments that are standard in cardiological and pneumonological diagnostics today. His participation in the American space program NASA marked a milestone in the history of experimental physiology. From his studies on the chimpanzees used in the NASA Mercury project , he developed theories about the biological basis of the stress response . The "stress model according to Henry" integrates psychosocial stress with cardiovascular and neuroendocrinological factors.

In 1976 Henry received the Carl Ludwig Medal of Honor from the German Society for Cardiology .
