development
After the knowledge that the secretion of hormones of the pituitary gland is controlled via the hypothalamus , as part of the central nervous system , it developed into an independent area. Geoffrey Harris was the first to show that the adenohypophysis is controlled by neurohormones released into the portal vein by nerve cells in the hypothalamus . She herself releases regulation and control hormones into the endocrine system. According to its development, the neurohypophysis is a component of the hypothalamus, so actually not a hormonal gland . Here, hormones are fed directly into the hormone system by nerve cells.
Essential for the development of this discipline were u. a. John Dittami and Berta Scharrer .
