James Pendleton Lichtenberger

James Pendleton Lichtenberger (born June 10, 1870 in Decatur, Illinois , † March 17, 1953 ) was an American pastor and sociologist and 12th President of the American Sociological Association .

After completing his bachelor's degree at Eureka College in Illinois in 1893 , he took over several pastoral positions in the Church of the Disciples of Christ , but also continued his studies, and in 1902 took the master's degree at Hiram College in Ohio . While serving as a pastor in New York City , he received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1909. PhD. In the same year he became professor of sociology at the University of Pennsylvania , where he taught until his retirement .
