James Phillip Hoffa
James Phillip "Jim" Hoffa (born May 19, 1941 in Detroit , Michigan ) has been the President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters since 1999 .

James Phillip Hoffa is the only son of James Riddle Hoffa and Josephine Hoffa (née Poszywak). He was born three years after his sister Barbara Ann Hoffa (now Barbara Ann Crancer) on May 19, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan.
Hoffa has been a member of the "Teamsters" since he was 18 in 1959 and has had a degree in economics from Michigan State University since 1963 and a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School since 1966 .
Between 1968 and 1993 he acted as a lawyer for the "Teamsters" and faced the election of their president in 1996, which he lost to Ron Carey .
Due to disagreements ("Teamstergate") Carey had to resign from his office and was not allowed to participate in the new election. On March 19, 1999, James P. Hoffa, like his father Jimmy Hoffa, became President of the "Teamsters".
James P. Hoffa is included in the conservative wing of the "Teamsters" union. Like his father, he has great political influence and connections. Among other things, he appeared at the Democratic Party Congress in 2004 as a speaker.
In 2005 he transferred his union from the AFL-CIO to the new umbrella organization Change to win .
Hoffa is married and has two sons.
