James Provan

James Provan (* 19th December 1936 in Glenfarg , Scotland ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party and farmer .

Life

Provan attended the Ardvreck School in Crieff and then the Oundle School in Northamptonshire . He studied agricultural science at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester . In 1965 he became president of the National Farmers Union of Scotland , which he headed until 1971. From 1979 to 2004 Provan was a member of the European Parliament . Provan is married to Roweena Lewis and has three children. Since 1990 he has been a member of the Rowett Research Institute , of which he was chairman from 1992 to 1999.
