James Meyer Sassoon, Baron Sassoon Kt , FCA (born September 11, 1955 ) was the Commercial Secretary to the Treasury in the UK Treasury from 2010 to 2013 . James Sassoon worked in various positions in the Treasury Department from 2002 to 2008 before his appointment as Secretary of State for Political Affairs and then advised David Cameron on financial policy issues.

A cabinet reshuffle in September 2012 decided that Paul Deighton would take over the position of Commercial Secretary to the Treasury from James Sassoon in January 2013.

Training and professional activity before 2010

James Sassoon attended Eton College and then studied at Oxford University . Sassoon began working in private finance and banking at Thomson McLintock & Company in 1977. In 1985 he moved to SG Warburg & Co (now UBS Warburg ), where he was promoted to director in 1995 and was vice chairman of the investment banking division from 2000 to 2002 .

After working at UBS Warburg, Sassoon worked as a director for Partnerships UK from 2002 to 2006 , the Merchants Trust from 2006 to 2010, the ifs School of Finance and the Nuclear Liabilities Fund from 2008 to 2010. Sassoon was also a representative of the Trust of National Gallery from 2002 to 2009 and the British Museum Trust from 2009 to 2010.

James Sassoon was the UK Treasury Department's Managing Director of Finance, Regulation and Industry from 2002 to 2006 . In 2007 he was elected President of the Anti-Money Laundering Working Group , a position he held until 2008.

In 2008 he was beaten to a Knight Bachelor degree and became financial advisor to David Camerons, who was then the opposition leader in the House of Commons , and an advisor to George Osborne , then shadow Treasury Secretary. He became a member of the Economic Recovery Committee of the shadow cabinet by David Cameron.

James Sassoon is the author of the Tripartite Review ; H. an investigation by the Financial Services Authority , the Bank of England and the UK Treasury into how well they can maintain the country's financial stability.

After David Cameron's election victory in May 2010, James Sassoon was appointed Commercial Secretary to the Treasury and was admitted to the House of Lords under the Life Peerages Act as a life peer entitled Baron Sassoon , of Ashley Park in the County of Surrey .

Private life

James Sassoon is a member of the extended Sassoon merchant family . His father Hugh Meyer Sassoon is a cousin of the poet Siegfried Sassoon . James Sassoon is married with three children.
