James Spione (* before 1985) is an American filmmaker who mainly attracted attention as a film director and producer for documentaries .

Career

Spies graduated with Honors from the State University of New York in Purchase in 1985 . He was first known in 1987 with a Student Academy Award for the film Prelude .

His first self-produced short film was released in 1994 under the title Garden . Two years later, the short television film The Playroom was released . Since the 2000s, Spione has dedicated himself to documentaries. His best-known work is Incident in New Baghdad , which tells of the events of the air raids in Baghdad on July 12, 2007 . In order to receive an Oscar nomination, Spies released the film in US cinemas with the help of the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.com . He then received an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Short Film at the 2012 Academy Awards .
