James Stewart Hine

James Stewart Hine (born June 13, 1866 near Wauseon , Ohio ; † December 22, 1930 Columbus , Ohio) was an entomologist and natural history curator at the Ohio State Archaeological and Historical Society . His most important contributions he delivered in the field of Fly family of brakes (Tabanidae).

Hine spent his childhood on a farm and then studied at Ohio State University , where he received his bachelor's degree in 1893 . Then he continued to work at the university. First as an assistant for horticulture and between 1895 and 1899 as an assistant in the entomological department. This was followed by three years as assistant professor of zoology and entomology and finally until 1925 as professor of entomology. In 1925 he was director and founder of the Ohio State Archaeological Museum's Department of Natural History until his death. He died of a heart attack .

The three dragonfly species Rhodopygia hini , Somatochlora hineana and Agria hini are named after him.
