James Van Alen
James Henry Van Alen (born September 19, 1902 in Newport , Rhode Island , † July 3, 1991 ibid) was an American tennis player and official.
biography
Van Alen played tennis singles and doubles in the United States. His greatest contribution to tennis was the invention of the tie-break in 1963 , which was officially included in tennis rules in 1970, and the "VASSS" (Van Alen Streamlined Scoring System). He also founded the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1954, which he was inducted into in 1965. The premises are located in the Newport Casino .
