Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind is one of the most important Islamic organizations in India . It was founded in 1919 and has been based on the principles of the Deobandi school from the start . During the time of British India the organization fought against colonialism and for a united India, and opposed the establishment of a separate state for Muslims in India . Its first president, Husain Ahmad Madani , headed the organization from 1919 until his death in 1957. He worked closely with the Indian National Congress until the partition of Indiawas carried out. A group under Shabbir Ahmad Usmani (1887-1949) spoke out in favor of building Pakistan , split off in 1945 and supported the Muslim League .

The current Secretary General is Maulana Mahmood Madani . He has issued a fatwa against terrorism : "We must put an end to terrorism, because all Islam is discredited in the name of fighting terrorism ".
