New Romney is a small town in the English district Folkestone and Hythe County Kent in South East England on the edge of Romney Marsh . New Romney once owned a seaport and was one of the founding cities of the Cinque Ports . The city's importance declined in the course of the 14th and 15th centuries as the port silted up. Today the city is about two kilometers from the sea coast.

The city had a member of parliament until the 19th century and was considered a " Rotten borough ". The Parliament seat was abolished in the Reform Act of 1832.

The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway runs through New Romney and connects it with the neighboring town of Hythe and the headland at Dungeness .
