Folkestone and Hythe is a district in Kent in England . The administrative seat is in Folkestone ; other significant places are Elham , Hythe , New Romney , Lydd and Sandgate . The portal of the Eurotunnel is at Cheriton .

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and was born from the merger of the boroughs of Folkestone, Hythe, Lydd and New Romney and the rural district Eltham and Romney Marsh.
