Toti dal Monte , actually Antonietta Meneghelli (born June 27, 1893 in Mogliano Veneto , Treviso , Italy ; † January 25, 1975 in Pieve di Soligo , Treviso, Italy) was an Italian opera singer ( coloratura soprano ) who worked a lot with Arturo Toscanini , and singing teacher .

Life

Dal Monte originally wanted to study the piano, but after a hand injury, she trained as a singer with Barbara Marchisio. She made her debut in a small role at La Scala in Milan (1910 as Biancofiore in Francesca da Rimini), initially in the field of lyric soprano. Then she switched to coloratura soprano and studied with the baritone Antonio Pini-Corsi. In 1918 she sang Gilda in Rigoletto under Arturo Toscanini at La Scala, where she soon sang Rossini (Rosina in the Barber of Seville ) and Donizetti roles. In addition, she sang a lot in Rome and Naples ( La traviata , La Bohème , Madama Butterfly , which she recorded with Beniamino Gigli ). From 1924 she also appeared in Paris (Rigoletto) and from 1925 in Covent Garden (Barber of Seville, Lucia di Lammermoor). In 1924 she toured with Nellie Melba at her invitation in Australia . In the same year she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera . She also sang in the 1920s regularly in Chicago . In 1943 she withdrew from the opera stage, but still occasionally recorded records and gave lessons. She also appeared in various films, for example in Anonimo veneziano 1970 by Enrico Maria Salerno (about a musician in La Fenice ).

After the Second World War she worked mainly as a singing teacher in Milan, Venice, Rome and the USSR. She trained Gianna d'Angelo and Dolores Wilson , among others .

In 1928 she married the tenor Enzo de Muro Lomanto in Sydney .
