City of Canterbury is an administrative district with City status in the county of Kent in England . In addition to the administrative center of Canterbury , it also includes the cities of Whitstable and Herne Bay and the small town of Fordwich .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the already existing (but significantly smaller) City of Canterbury, the urban districts of Whitstable and Herne Bay Urban District and the Rural District Bridge-Blean.
