Tonbridge and Malling is an administrative district with borough status in the county of Kent in England . It covers an area that extends from the North Downs in the north to the town of Tonbridge in the south, and in the northeast it is traversed by the River Medway . The administrative seat is West Malling ; other significant places are Aylesford , Burham , East Peckham , Hadlow , Hildenborough , Kings Hill , Snodland and Tonbridge.
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the Urban District Tonbridge, the Rural District Malling and part of the Rural District Tonbridge.
