Tunbridge Wells is an administrative district with borough status in the county of Kent in England . It is named after the administrative center of Tunbridge Wells , where almost half the population lives. The borough is divided into ten wards. Eight of them are in the city itself, the rest include the surrounding villages. These include Cranbrook , Paddock Wood , Pembury and Southborough , among others .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of the Municipal Borough of Royal Tunbridge Wells, the Urban District Southborough, the Rural District Cranbrook and most of the Rural District Tonbridge.
