The Janca (from Aymara janq'u , "white") is after Javier Pulgar Vidal the highest altitude level of the Andes with over 4800 m above sea level .

The Janca is the region of eternal snow on the Andean peaks. Steep slopes predominate, on whose ice-free sections mosses and lichens and the only flowering plant the yareta grow. There is no human resident population.

In the Andean religion, the mountain peaks are the seat of spiritual beings as well as the residence of the souls of the deceased.
