Jan Birck

Jan Birck (* 1963 in Munich ) is a German illustrator, animated film artist, cartoonist and CD-ROM designer.

Life

After graduating from high school in design, Birck began studying architecture. After dropping out of his studies, he worked as a commercial artist and then switched to animation, where he worked as a background artist from 1990 and, in 1992, worked with Walt Peregoy and Juan Japl as art director of the film The Adventures of Pico and Columbus . In 1997 he worked as a background artist for Die fearless Vier . He then drew puzzles and cartoons for Heye Verlag under the pseudonym Jabo and then switched to the illustration of children's books. Among other things, he illustrated the new edition of the series " Knickerbocker-Gang " by Thomas Brezina .

In 2000/2001 Birck created the now well-known Wilde Kerle design and designed the figures. Together with Joachim Masannek , he then realized the project “ Die Wilde Fußballkerle ” at Baumhaus Verlag. There were 13 volumes and 3 jointly licensed films that Joachim Masannek was able to realize as a director. The trademarks “Die Wilden Kerle” and “ Die Wilden Fußballkerle ” are owned by Jan Birck and Joachim Masannek.

Birck lives in Munich with his wife and two sons.

Awards

In 2004 he received the Troisdorf Picture Book Prize from the children's jury for his children's book, Secret Agent Morris .
