The adventures of Pico and Columbus is a German cartoon from 1992 by director Michael Schoemann . It was released by Bavaria Film on February 14, 1992.

action

In 1492, many believed that the world was flat and that ships could fall over the edge of the earth. But the Italian navigator Christopher Columbus had the idea that the world is a cube. But a little woodworm named Pico overheard him and convinced him that the world is a sphere. After this discovery, he goes to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella - Pico comes with him and they both become friends.

When Columbus explains to the king that the world is round and not flat, the king outrages and orders his guards to arrest Columbus. But Queen Isabella, who is in love with Columbus, gets ahead of them and gives Columbus the opportunity to prove his theory through a trip. The king agrees, but if Columbus is to be executed, he does not return with gold. Since the three of them are having a party that night, Pico decides to leave them and explore the castle. He climbs a large tower and through a window reaches a chandelier. There he meets Marilyn, the fairy princess from a distant land. From there the evil prince kidnapped her and kept her imprisoned in the chandelier so that she could reveal the secret of her powers to him. Pico and Marilyn try to escape, but the prince returns and takes Marilyn to his hiding place in the still undiscovered new world. Pico vows to free Marilyn.

The next day, Columbus sets sail to discover the new world. Pico rushes to the ship, but is met by three rats that want to eat him. Pico manages to escape, but the rats follow him. They hope to be able to drive them to the new world too. The two friends are reunited on Columbus' ship and Pico explains that he wants to save Marilyn. Columbus' comrades overhear their captain talking to Pico and say that Columbus is crazy. During the trip, Pico comes across the rats again. They want to leave the ship on one of the lifeboats because they heard that it was going to the supposed end of the world. But Pico needs the lifeboat if the team mutinies against Columbus and he wants to flee. He convinces the rats by telling them that there are huge amounts of cheese in the New World.

During the night Pico hears that the sailors want to kill Columbus and return because they are afraid of the end of the world. Pico tells Columbus and the next day tries to calm his crew down with a song of heroic sailors. So they let him live, but still want to change course. When a supposed island turns out to be an old Viking ship shortly afterwards, the sailors are upset again. When they hang up Columbus, he sees the new world from the mast. At that moment the evil prince attacks and tries to kill everyone on the ship. They still make it ashore and Pico, Columbus, a beaver and the two surviving rats go through the jungle of the island, Aztec temple of the prince.

Pico and his friends arrive at the temple where Prince Marilyn is about to steal her strength. Columbus climbs to the top of the temple in the form of an insect stick and takes the golden idol while Pico saves Marilyn. Columbus uses the idol to stop the prince and the beaver destroys the temple. The friends escape, but Marilyn drowns in a waterfall. But when the sun rises, she comes to and Pico and Marilyn kiss. The natives of the island thank Columbus for delivering them from the prince. The group sails back to Spain and Columbus is happy to know that a new world has been discovered and proven that the world is round.
