Jan Deyman (as well as Joan or Johannes Deymann ) (* 1620 in Amsterdam ; † December 7, 1666 ibid) was a Dutch surgeon .

biography

Deyman was born in Amsterdam's Bloemstraat to Wolphert Deyman, sea ​​captain , and Maria Troncquoy.

In 1638 he began studying medicine at the University of Leiden . In 1642 he received his doctorate from the University of Anger (Anjou). In the following years Deyman practiced in Amsterdam. In 1653 he became inspector of the Collegium Medicum . In 1653 Deyman also followed Nicolaes Tulp as praelector anatomiae and became a lecturer in anatomy in Amsterdam. In the same year he was also appointed inspector of the Collegium Medicum and professor in surgery at the Atheneum Illustre in Amsterdam.

In art history, Deyman is known through Rembrandt's painting Anatomical Lecture by Dr. Deyman , which was made in 1656 and whose central fragment is now in the Amsterdam Museum in Amsterdam.

Deyman was married to Maria Bas , who came from a wealthy Amsterdam patrician family.
