The Isenberg colliery in Hattingen - Niederwenigern -Winzermark is a former hard coal mine . The mine was only in operation for a few years. The mine belonged to the Märkisches Bergamts district and there to the jury area Dahlhausen .
Mining history
On June 30 of 1849, which were square boxes Isenberg Isenberg I and II awarded . The two quarter fields were on the left bank of the Ruhr, in the municipality of Niederwengern. It is believed that the mine started operating in 1854. In the following year, a tunnel was created in the quarry area on today's Isenbergerstrasse . The tunnel was located about 880 meters north of today's inn "Zum Deutschen". The tunnel was set on the Fundflöz Ernestine and had a final length of 100 Lachter . The Ernestine seam was 22 inches in thickness in this area . The coal height obtained was a maximum of 22 laughers. The tunnel was in the south ascended , while two were lying existing unbauwürdige seams passed through. In addition, a broken tunnel was cleared 200 laughers south of the new tunnel . Mining was also carried out in the excavated tunnel. With 14 miners , 4578½ tons of coal were mined that year . The coal mined was transported to the Ruhr. In the years 1858, 1863 and 1865 the mine was demonstrably in operation. In 1869, 25 miners mined 939 tons of hard coal. The Isenberg colliery was subsequently shut down.
Current condition
The mouth hole of one of the tunnels is still preserved today.
