Jan Dobrzański (* 1820 in Czarna Górna , † May 29, 1885 in Lemberg ) was a Polish journalist, revolutionary and theater director.

Dobrzański attended high school in Przemyśl and began studying law and philosophy at the University of Lviv in 1839 , which he did not graduate. From around 1841 he wrote, among other things, theater reviews for Gazeta Lwoweska . In 1843 he married the actress Karolina Smochowska , with whom he had two children, Stanisław Dobrzański and Celina Dobrzańska . From 1845 he was co-editor of Dziennik Mód Paryskich .

In 1848 he participated in the preparation of the revolution in Lviv and published the magazine Rada Narodowa . For these activities he was served in an Austrian penal battalion. After his return he worked again in Lviv as a journalist for the magazines Nowiny , Dziennik Literacki and Gazeta Narodowa .

From 1875 to 1881 and after Adam Miłaszewski's two-year interlude from 1883, he directed the theater in Lemberg. Under his direction, the theater even ran an opera for a time, which, however, exceeded its financial resources. In the last years of his life, Dobrzański was often ill, and his daughter Celina took over the management duties at the theater.
