Jan Eliášův z Horšovského Týna

Jan Eliášův z Horšovského Týna ( also Johannes Eliae, Eliášův Jan z Fulneka ) († around 1428 ) was a Bohemian scholar and theologian.

Life

In 1382 he graduated from Charles University in Prague as a master of the seven liberal arts , was dean of the faculty in 1387, held the office of rector of the university in 1393 and received his doctorate in theology in 1398.

In 1403 he appeared as a mediator in the dispute between Jan Hus and Mikuláš Janselmeister over income from funerals and altar payments. In 1412 he was a member of the Arbitration Commission, which was supposed to settle disputes among the masters of the university over the teaching of John Wiclif and indulgences. The negotiations failed and King Wenceslaus IV then banished not only Jan Hus, but all four members of the commission from Prague : In addition to Jan Eliáš, Stanislaus von Znaim , Štěpán z Pálče and Petr ze Znojma .

Jan Eliáš then withdrew to his home community.
