Jan hook

Jan Haken ( 1912 - 1956 ) was a Dutch communist , a prisoner in Buchenwald concentration camp and a member of the Second Chamber of the States General ( CPN ).

Life

Hook joined the Communist Partij van Nederland . When General Franco launched a coup against the Spanish Republic , he joined the International Brigades and fought in Spain to defend the Republic. From 1942 to 1945 he was a prisoner in Buchenwald concentration camp and was part of the prisoner kitchen work command. Hook became a member of the International Camp Committee and used his weapon to support the liberation of Buchenwald by the 3rd US Army on April 11, 1945.

When the rule of National Socialism was over, he said goodbye to his Dutch comrades from the concentration camp to return home. He also returned to the Netherlands and was a member of the CPN's mandate in the Second Chamber of the States General, the Dutch Parliament.
