Ulrich Schneider (* 1954 in Bremen ) is a German historian , federal spokesman for the VVN-BdA and general secretary of the International Federation of Resistance Fighters (FIR)

Life

After earning his university , he studied German, history and social studies in Marburg / Lahn and his doctorate there as a historian Doctor of Philosophy with Scripture The Confessing Church between "joyful yes" and antifascist resistance . After working for a long time at the University of Kassel , from 2003 he worked as a German and history teacher at the vocational high school in Bebra, where he was a member of the school management. There he headed the department of the vocational high school from 2008 until his retirement in summer 2019.

Since 1975 Schneider has published on the topics of anti-fascist resistance , regional contemporary history and the history of the Buchenwald concentration camp . He is the author of numerous books and magazines with a focus on the history of the anti-fascist resistance, dealing with historical revisionism and anti-fascism today.

Since 1975 he has been a member of the Association of Those Persecuted by the Nazi Regime - Association of Antifascists (VVN-BdA), since 1991 he has been a member of the board of directors and one of the federal spokesmen. Since 2020 he has been working in the editorial team of "ANTIFA" magazine. He is also the managing director of the Buchenwald - Dora / Freundeskreis eV camp community and editor of the anti-fascist magazine Glocke vom Ettersberg .

Since 1991 he has been the representative of the VVN-BdA in the International Federation of Resistance Fighters (FIR) and since 2003 General Secretary of the FIR. In this role he is responsible for the implementation of the FIR congresses in Berlin (2005), Athens (2007), Berlin (2010), Vienna (2011), Sofia (2013), Prague (2016) and Reggio Emilia (2019) as well of the conferences at the European Parliament in 2006 and 2007. Schneider is the FIR coordinator for the international youth meetings in Buchenwald in 2008, Auschwitz in 2012, 2015 and 2021.
