Joannes "Jan" Josephus Ignatius Harte van Tecklenburg (birth name: Joannes "Jan" Josephus Ignatius Harte ; born October 15, 1853 in Utrecht ; † July 4, 1937 in The Hague ) was a Dutch Catholic politician and businessman , a member of the Second Chamber of the States General and as a financial expert of Rooms-Katholieke Bond van Kiesvereinigingen, he was Finance Minister in the Kuyper cabinet between 1901 and 1905 . The customs law he submitted in February 1904 to increase import duties could no longer be dealt with conclusively. Most recently he was a member of the Council of State ( Raad van State ) between 1908 and 1934 , of which he was temporarily vice-president.

Life

Joannes "Jan" Josephus Ignatius Harte married a daughter of the wealthy margarine manufacturer Anton Jurgens and, through the influence of his father-in-law, became a member of the Second Chamber of the States General (Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal) for the first time on May 1, 1884 and represented it with a short interruption until on August 1, 1901, the constituency of Grave . After he belonged to the conservative wing at the beginning of his parliamentary membership, he later joined the progressive social groups around the priest Herman Schaepman . On December 28, 1894, he changed his name to Joannes "Jan" Josephus Ignatius Harte van Tecklenburg after approval by a royal decision (Koninklijk Besluit) .

On August 1, 1901, Jan Harte van Tecklenburg, who was considered the financial expert of Rooms-Katholieke Bond van Kiesvereinigingen , was appointed Minister of Finance (Minister van Financiën) in the Kuyper cabinet , of which he was a member until August 16, 1905. His customs law (Tariefwet), submitted in February 1904 to increase import duties, could no longer be dealt with conclusively.

In addition to his political career, Harte van Tecklenburg was also active as an entrepreneur and was a member of the supervisory board of A. Jurgens' Vereenigde Fabrieken NV , the company of his father-in-law , between 1902 and 1913 , and was most recently chairman of this supervisory board from 1913 until his death in 1937. After he had not held a public office between August 16, 1905 and July 15, 1908, he was appointed a member of the Council of State ( Raad van State ) by royal decree of July 11, 1908 , to which he was appointed from July 15, 1908 to May 1, 1934. During this time he acted briefly in 1928 and 1932 as acting vice-president of the State Council.
