Johannes Hermanus Michiel Kock (born March 11, 1835 , † 1899 ) was a Boer general in the Second Boer War .

Life

Jan Kock was born in 1835 in Graaff-Reinet District, South Africa, as the son of Voortrekkers Commandant Johannes Hendricus Lambertus Kock (1813-1889). At the age of ten he witnessed the Battle of Zwartkopjes (April 30, 1845) and was there at Boomplaats (August 29, 1848), where his father was taken prisoner. After his release, both fled to Potchefstroom . There Kock married the daughter of General Commander Stephanus Schoeman .

In 1874 Landdrost von Potchefstroom, 1891 member of the Volksraads and 1895 secretary of the executive council of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek , he was an influential colleague of Paul Kruger .

In 1899 he was given a command of the troops in Northern Natal. He was wounded at ElandslaAGEN (October 21, 1899) and died a few days later (→ Battle of ElandslaAGEN ). He was buried in the old cemetery in Pretoria .
