Jan Martin Timmer is a German ancient historian .

Life

From 1994 to 2001 Timmer studied history, ancient history and Protestant theology at Bielefeld University . From 2001 to 2004 he was a research assistant in the subproject B4 Age Limits of Political Participation in Antiquity and Modernity of the Bielefeld Collaborative Research Center 584 The Political as a Communication Space in History , then in 2004/2005 in the subproject B14 Late Antique Heresies. "Orthodoxy" and "heterodoxy" as inclusion and exclusion criteria of the political space of the same Collaborative Research Center. From the 2003/2004 winter semester to the 2004/2005 winter semester he was also a lecturer at the Ruhr University in Bochum . Since 2005 he has been a research assistant at the University of Bonn . In January 2007 he received his doctorate under Winfried Schmitz at Bielefeld University . Since his habilitation in the summer semester 2015, he has been teaching at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn as a private lecturer . In the 2016 summer semester he held a chair at the Humboldt University in Berlin and in the 2017 summer semester a chair at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen .

His main research interests are inclusion / exclusion in ancient political systems, political processes, slavery in ancient times and the phenomenon of trust.
