Jan Nepomuk Wański

Jan Nepomuk Wański ( Jean Népomucène Wanski , * around 1805 in Russian Poland, † after 1839 , probably in Aix-en-Provence ) was a Polish violin virtuoso and composer.

Wański studied in Warsaw and later in Paris with Pierre Baillot . He went on concert tours through France, Spain and Italy and became a member of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome . From 1839 he lived as a violinist and violin teacher in Aix-en-Provence, where he probably also died. Wański composed numerous violin works and also wrote study materials.

His father Jan Wański (born June 2, 1756 in Bukówiec Górny , † around 1830) was also a violinist and composer. He wrote at least two operas: Pasterz nad Wisłą ( The Shepherd on the Vistula , 1786), and Kmiotek ( The Farmer , 1787–88). These stage works have been lost, but not the two symphonies in which Wański sen. Themes from the respective overtures used. In addition to at least one other surviving symphony, Wański sen. Polonaise, mazurkas, military marches, choral works and songs.
