Johannes "Jan" Jacobus Marinus Oostenbrink (born August 18, 1936 in Amsterdam ) is a former economic manager and politician of the Katholieke Volkspartij (KVP), who was State Secretary in the Biesheuvel cabinet in the Ministry of Economic Affairs between 1971 and 1973 .

Life

After studying business administration, Oostenbrink began his professional career in 1962 as a business economist at the blinds manufacturer Hunter Douglas in Rotterdam , but in 1963 he switched to the Roman-Catholic Mittelstandsbund NRKM (Nederlandse Rooms-Katholieke Middenstandsbond) , which later became the Catholic employers' association NKOV (Nederlands Katholiek Ondernemersverbond) . Most recently he was acting secretary of the NKOV until January 1, 1969, before acting as secretary to Raad van het Grootwinkelbedrijf , the central employers' association of department stores, between January 1, 1969 and July 16, 1971 .

On July 17, 1971, Prime Minister Barend Biesheuvel appointed him State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs (Staatssecretaris van Economische Zaken) in his government and held this office until May 11, 1973. In this role, he was in particular for medium-sized businesses, small businesses, retail, Crafts, services, tourism, calibration, accounting companies and the chambers of commerce. In May 1973 he refused to continue as State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the newly formed cabinet of Prime Minister Joop den Uyl , whereupon his party friend Ted Hazekamp took over this office.

After leaving the government, Oostenbrink was secretary and director for internal and external affairs of the NV Koninklijke Bijenkorf Beheer department store group between 1974 and 1982 and then general secretary of the Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel) in Amsterdam from April 1982 to 1984 . Most recently, in 1984, he became the main director of the insurance company VVAA (Nederlandsche Vereeniging van Artsen-Automobilisten) in Utrecht .
