Jan Willem Noot
Jan Willem Noot (born February 22, 1708 in Cologne , † April 5, 1770 in Ruhrort ) was a Prussian customs inspector and father of Aletta Haniel .
Jan Willem Noot was the only son and second of four children of the businessman Dirk Noot (1680-1712) and his wife Maria, formerly Roland (1685-1775), born on February 22, 1708 in Cologne.
Like his grandfather, he learned the trade as a boatman. Around 1730 Jan Willem Noot lived and worked in or near Nijmegen . In 1733 he became the Royal Prussian customs inspector in Orsoy on the Lower Rhine. In 1744 Jan Willem Noot took over the office of customs and license inspector in Ruhrort .
Twelve years later he built a residential and office building (packing house) in front of the city gates . Jan Willem Noot moved there with his family in 1756. In the stately new building, he ran a warehousing business for the region's grocers.
It is possible that he later expanded this business to include freight forwarding. Jan Willem Noot enjoyed a high reputation in Ruhrort. He was the second mayor and deputy commander of the civil guard .
During Jan Willem Noot's first marriage to Johanna Maria Markus, which was concluded in Neerbosch near Nijmegen in 1731, a daughter was born. She died as a child. Jan Willem Noot married again in 1739: his second wife Johanna Catharina Erckenswick came from a wealthy Orsoyer family of cloth manufacturers.
The Noot couple had nine children, six of whom reached adulthood.
At his request, his son-in-law Jacob Wilhelm Haniel took over the Ruhrort packing house.
