Jan van der Meij (born February 8, 1937 in Venlo ; † April 2, 2002 there ) was a Dutch football player .

Career

Career

Van der Meij was a midfielder and played for VVV-Venlo from 1958 to 1965 ; he came at this time to a professional assignment in the Eredivisie in the 1961/1962 season on November 26, 1961. It followed after his debut another year for the first team from Venlo before returning to his youth club SV Blerick. van der Meij played from 1962 to 1964, two more years before signing again for VVV-Venlo. After his return he appeared in 7 games for Venlo before ending his career with the Rijnsburgse Boys. Van der Meij played a total of 8 games and scored one goal for VVV Venlo in the top Dutch division.

Van der Meij died on April 2, 2002 at the age of 65.

Personal

His then 18-month-old grandson Baerke van der Mey made headlines in April 2011 when he signed a 10-year contract with VVV-Venlo with felt-tip pens . His son Jorg had previously posted a video of the boy on YouTube .
