Janarde is a place and a former municipality in Portugal .

history

The place already had its own church in the 17th century, but only became an independent municipality on December 10, 1803, after persistent demands from the population, who no longer wanted to belong to the municipality of Alvarenga with the relatively distant capital.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Janarde was again affiliated to Alvarenga, only to become independent again in 1936. During the Second World War , 13 mines in the municipality of Wolfram were mined so that the Salazar regime delivered weapons to Nazi Germany in particular .

As part of the regional reform in Portugal in 2013 , the municipality of Janarde was dissolved and merged with Covelo de Paivó to form the new municipality of Covelo de Paivó e Janarde .
