Jane Lewis

Jane Lewis (* 1950 ) is a British sociologist . She is Professor of Social Policy at the London School of Economics .

Her main areas of work include gender and welfare regimes, family policy and the history of social security. Together with Ilona Ostner, she decisively shaped the gender-related analysis of welfare regimes based on Gøsta Esping-Andersen . This means that caring regimes in particular should be examined. How is care of relatives, child care, health care and voluntary or voluntary work organized and supported by the state in a welfare state? How are gendered structures or processes embedded in it that lead to the majority of women carrying out care activities. According to Lewis, a central question of (feminist) welfare state research should be how care work is to be distributed equally between the sexes, classes and ethnicities.
