Gulf torpedo is a ray species from the family of the torpedo . It lives mainly in the west of the Indian Ocean , but is alsosightedalong the southeast African coast, in the Red Sea , in the Arabian Sea , in the Andaman Sea , off Sri Lanka and in the Persian Gulf . It is assumed that the speciesis dividedinto subspecies in its wide distribution area, but detailed descriptions of their identification are not yet available.

Torpedo sinuspersici has the typical somewhat wider than long disk shape of its family, and is a large species of ray with a length of up to 1.30 meters. The back and tail are light brown with clearly raised, irregular white or cream colored spots. It can weigh up to 13 kilograms.
Way of life
Torpedo sinuspersici lives mainly in shallow water over sandy bottom, mostly near reefs , and feeds on smaller fish.
