Janet Kennedy
Lady Janet Douglas, Countess of Angus (* around 1483; † 1543 ) was a Scottish noblewoman and the mistress of King James IV.
biography
Janet was the eldest daughter of John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy (1454-1509) and his wife Lady Elizabeth Seton (1451-1500). During her marriage to Sir Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Angus (1453-1513), Lady Janet 1498 became the mistress of the Scottish King James IV (1473-1513). The marriage resulted in three sons. Only one son, James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray (1499–1544), reached adulthood.
For political reasons, Jacob IV married Princess Margaret Tudor (1489–1541), the daughter of King Henry VII of England in 1503 , the sister of Henry VIII. Despite his marriage, he continued his relationship with Lady Janet.
